Stories from
the long road.

Writer · songwriter · storyteller · healer
Meet Douglas Heyes Jr.—a California storyteller whose life moves through television, books, songs, spiritual inquiry and the stubborn hope of the American road.

A life in story
From the writers’ room to the healing room.
Douglas began as a child actor and built a creative life across dramatic television, producing, books, plays, poems and songs. After a severe injury changed his course, the storyteller’s search widened toward psychology, presence, recovery and service.
Across every form, the enduring question is what a story can open in us.

Celestial Noise
Everybody keeps telling me the world is ending. Me, I can still hear a tune. Somewhere under the shouting there’s an old rhythm calling us out of hiding—out of our wars, back into each other’s lives. Turn it up. Open the door. If we’ve still got love and a little music, let’s make some noise.
Lyrics & song detailsFly Solo, Fly Free
Papa, there’s a whole stretch of California between the things we said and the things we couldn’t. I still hear your laugh. I still carry your music. We didn’t come through this family without a few broken places, but your voice found its way into mine. Wherever those four winds take us, some part of us goes together.
Lyrics & song detailsMain Street Player
You’ve probably walked past me with somewhere else to be. I’m the fellow with the guitar, keeping company with the streetlights until morning. Stop a minute. We’ve all got something to grieve, something to forgive. There’s room here on the sidewalk—and I’ve got a song that might help us remember.

The book
The Touch
Healing Miracles and Methods
Douglas’s 2016 book brings together a personal account of injury and recovery with a philosophy of compassionate attention. Here it is presented with a clear wellness boundary: a life story and spiritual perspective, never a substitute for medical or mental-health care.
