Commander Xander and his crew take the Mystic Mariner into a voyage where seafaring and space travel obey the same perilous logic. Secrecy, battle and loyalty test the ship's fragile community, while Sera offers a visionary sense of direction. The unfinished narrative pauses on another remembered maritime disaster and the burden of surviving it.

STARFIELD COMMANDER

Xander Alexander was the Starfield Commander
The Skipper aboard Mystic Mariner
His father was the Admiral, trained at Cape Canaveral
An Astronaut, he never seemed to fall
No one there had failed to see the writing on the wall
He worked around jet engines and studied Maritime Law
His record had no blemishes, no warnings or admonishments
No covenants or punishments, there was nothing at all

He was not a humble man and bound to fits of rage
When he was commissioned Captain, they put him in a cage
To sweat out his addictions and to help him turn the page
Then he met a Woman who was barely half his age
His Crewmen came from Skybound, NASA, JPL
They were put through living hell
Before the sound of the first Ship’s Bell
Kiss your woman fare-thee-well

She had an air about her of Elegance and Pain
Like someone left her Frozen Heart to thaw out in the Rain
Something else was hiding there, an element of shame
Skybound Mariners unite into the astral plane
Commander Xander’s Legacy was like an Unchained Melody
An unquestionable honesty and principled propriety
Like his crewman out at sea, he was sworn to secrecy
When, at last, the storm came in, he turned astern, came back again

Ensign Sera, a dark Moonchild, would make all the Crewmen go wild
With a Heart of a Lion, and the ways of a Child
The stars of Orion shine in her eyes
Humble, mysterious, quietly wise
Off for a rendezvous with our allies
Gossip and ballyhoo under gossamer skies
Secret, clandestine strategy session
We make a decision, blockade imposition

This must be done with exquisite precision
Reverberation in other dimensions
No dedication celebration
Facing an emergent situation
Communication silence
Battle stations for the violence
Communicating with mirrors
Obeying directives from our Seniors

At JPL in Pasadena, they had us on their scope
A rendezvous with the flotilla is our last and only hope
We're the hunted or the Hunter as our Hearts are torn asunder
Tell me, is it any Wonder we hear the sound of distant thunder?
Sera took the con at the coming of the Dawn
Step lively, Battle stations everyone
Inside, we all were dying, though not for want of trying
The enemy was lying in wait, up ahead and close behind

The next entry comes from Captain Xander’s private logs
“Our defenses now are failing, and we're going to the dogs
Like a serpent in concealment underneath a rotten log
The war is all around us, and way up on the Main
The Ocean that surrounds us going totally insane
The Enemy astounds us when they start to bring the pain
No one here among us wants to die out in the Rain
Won or lost at such a cost, and nothing left to gain

Space-time is ruled by Intergalactic Law
Based on Codes of the Maritime from the Royal Court of Warsaw
I can't tell you everything about what we heard and what we saw
But, I can tell you certainly, we are far Outside the Law
Buckle up your Guns and Swords for the coming of the Lord
Stand Guard with your Shipmates when they try to come on board
If you even hesitate, you’d better listen to my Word
Could be your Fate is to Fly Away on the Wings of a Great White Bird

If that is what you're thinking, if that's what in your Mind
The rest of us still think it's best to leave you far behind
If you can't hack the Ocean, you will die out in Space-Time
We can't lose Forward Motion, but we might be Flying Blind
Commander Alexander took stock of all our weapons
Besides our Earthbound Arsenal, we are well prepared for Heaven
We Sail before the Seven Winds at Category 7
No Forgiveness for our Sins, weary Wartime passion

How can you survive where there is no Satisfaction?
If you die, are you the Target of a Chain Reaction?
If you can Disintegrate and then Reintegrate
Your Atoms are Intelligent, in a pristine, Primal State
You can travel through the Galaxy till you reach the Heaven’s Gate
These skills are more important now than they've ever been before
You'll get rich when you commit to a life of being poor
Don't take time to think about what the future has in store

Do what you Do, Have what you Have, but most, Be Who You Are
I don't have to tell you’re descended from a Star
Out here on the Edge of Night, only Starlight burning bright
Sera was the Tribal Chorus of what the Scribes had said before us
We are living Prophecy as Captives in Eternity
We are so much more than what you see in our Interdimensionality
This can be as Dangerous as a Cult of Personality
Unity will always Rise from fractalized Duality

Yes, this test will manifest in times of greatest stress
Don't hold your breath or you'll be left with nothing to be blessed
Stand tall and proud or cry out loud, it doesn't matter anyway
If you’re here or far away, we're behind you all the way

Keep your Secrets well disguised
Develop Darkness in your Eyes
Let Tears come down and let them dry
Seek Surrender when you Die
This never ender of a Life
Transcribed by a noble Scribe
Written into the Akashic Record
Circumscribed by Amelia Earhart

There's no way you're getting out Alive
Life begins the Moment that you Die
Your Soul begins to extend, so you never reach the end
You contain more than you are contained
You're a Warlord of the Olympian Plain
You change the Sunshine into Rain
We set our Intention on a Parallel Dimension

There’s no up or down in Space-Time, only Vector and Trajectory
We're spinning like a Particle across the Galaxy
No reference points are anywhere
We disappear into the air
Never to be seen again
Till perhaps with the help of a Friend
We might just make it back again
With Sera playing Violin

There's a Tale that I remember
About a Gale Force Wind
It was out on Lake Superior
As the Storm was coming in
It was cold in late November
29 Mariners Died
I was First Made at the time
The only man who survived
